Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum starter discussion.

Discuss the starters for Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum.

I picked Chimchar because it looked beast. I kept it on my team for ages and it grew into an Infernape. Thats when Infernape started being my favorite Pokemon.

i was talking about diamond and pearl with pokes like shinx, budew etc.

Shinx doesn't know electric moves at the begining though. so Piplup can easily take it down.

true but i was using it as an example - also choosing your starter based on the first gym or so may make you regret it later e.g in DPt if you chose piplup for the first gym (rock) - but might get pwned in the second gym (grass)

You can catch other Pokemon though, you don't need the starters for gym battles. If you always rely on your starter, your not good at Pokemon.

yea i know that but that makes adventuring fun doesn't it - travelling around catching new pokes - choosing what to use and/or not

You can't make a team if you don't train your other Pokemon.

also making a team based round your starter is not a good idea - 'cuz that would make your starter a centrepiece for your team

You can use starters, but don't overuse them.

unless you know what ure doing with them -

EXAMPLE: marriland - in his platinum adventure all he used was torterra and staraptor, and then azelf for the battles - the rest were used as slaves

My friend only uses his ubers and his Emoleon is his HM Pokemon.

i used to use infernape as a rock climb using slave

Thats mean silver. Poor Infernape.

but don't worry mudkip i got rid of rock climb from infernape after a little while because infernape is epic and doesn't deserve to use rock - a strong poke like machamp should have rock climb or a weak poke like geodude

I chose Piplup 'cause it's water. Water beats everything except ground, electric, and grass.

i chose piplup because i lookes on psypokes and the idea that it was water steel intrigued me. Kinda wished i gotten torterra but empolean is still my favorite!

How did you get rid of its HM move?

via the move deleter in canalave city

I didn't know move deleters could get rid of HM moves. I gotta try that on my Infernape. I don't like it having Rock Samsh.

glad i helped - move deleters can get rid of any move granted you have 1 left

Why would you teach a starter an HM move. Thats what HM slaves are For.

That's a mistake I made in Diamond, when I was a noob. I was stuck at the E4. (Diamond was my first Pokemon game)

Geez i knew you guys were younger than me but geez. I mean i started with gold and back then i just got it cause my brother gave it to me. i didnt have any friends who could help me and i didnt use the internet, But even i knew about not teaching HMs to important pokemon.

what about surf and waterfall - you could teach them to the water type starter

but i would have them learn hydro pump and other woves because i always had HM slaves at my disposal

but i always teach surf and waterfall to my water starters - i don't need a HM slave for those 2 moves
