Pokémon Types: Steel PKMN376

When the games were introduced, there was no such thing as Steel Types. However, in the second Generation, they introduced one of the new types: Steel. These Pokémon have many resistances and an immunity to Poison Type attacks and moves. Steel Types are known for their strong Attack and Defense stats and are known as Physical Sweepers.

In the first Generation, there was no such thing as a Steel Type. However, in the second Generation, they introduced a few and changed the the Magnemite family from pure electric, to Steel/Electric.

In the third Generation, more Steel Types were added to the Pokédex. The most notable Steel Types were Aggron and Metagross. Aggron was given a Rock/Steel typing which gave it even more resistance, but deadly when used against Ground Types. Metagross has the interesting Steel/Psychic combination and is very popular.

In the fourth Generation, more Steel Types were introduced. The most used Steel Type is Lucario, a Steel/Fighting combination. It loses the weakness to Psychic, but gains weakness from Fighting and Ground.

Countering Steel Types

Steel Types are usually Physical Sweepers. They have high Attack and high Defense. a good way to counter them is by using fast or Bulky Pokémon that can get through their defenses. However, some of them will throw you a curve ball. Some Steel Types can be fast and with the TM Rock Polish, it can help them gain speed. Be wary of them. Also, Steel Types have Poison Immunity. Special Sweepers may help you take out a few Steel Types, but Physical Sweepers would probably work better. It depends on the Steel Type being used.

Using Steel Types

Steel Types need to vary. Using only slow, Physical Sweepers may give you problems against the more faster Pokémon. To make sure you aren't having circles ran around your team, you need to vary it up a bit. Lucario is great to have on the team because its faster than the average Steel Type. Also, it has great Sp. Attack which will certainly be a curve ball for the other team.

Another good Pokémon to use would be Skarmory. Using Stealth Rock and Spikes will cause headaches for your opponent and chip off health every time they switch or send out a new Pokémon. Another good Sp. Attack Steel Type is Magnezone. With Magnet Rise, you can make your Magnezone gain the Levitate ability.

Steel Types also make effective walls. Bronzong can really slow your opponent down and will let you set up for a good counter. Aggron is another wall that when used properly, can be a brick wall that also hits hard. Steelix is another that is good for use. A good Physical Sweeper would be Metagross that isn't a bad Special Sweeper either.

Final note: A pure Steel base team needs diversity. Physical, Special, and Status Sweepers will help you in the long run. My advice when it comes to Steel Types is to either add it to a diverse team or when using a Steel Team, to add diversity to make sure you aren't being swamped.

Steel Types are one of the best, and the only type to resist Dragon based moves.
